Well-designed lighting is not just a matter of aesthetics. Both natural and artificial light have a huge impact on our mental, physical, and overall well-being. In this article, we show how light shapes our circadian rhythm, mood, and energy levels, and how to choose the right light at home and work to feel better every day.
Natural sunlight is one of the key factors regulating the circadian rhythm (the biological clock). Exposure to daylight in the morning stimulates the production of cortisol, the hormone responsible for energizing the body. In the evening, when there is less light, the level of melatonin increases, allowing us to peacefully fall asleep.
